FOUNDATIONS DETAIL: REVELATION 21:19-20
Revelation 19-20 (KJV)
And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones.
- The first foundation was Jasper
(a green stone, we use Blood Jasper for its beauty. The hints of red symbolize the Blood of Jesus.)
- The second Sapphire
(a blue stone, we use Lapis Lazuli. The Sapphire we know today was not discovered until later, somewhere around 300 to 400 A.D. The Greek word used here is "Sappheiros" which is translated as Lapis Lazuli. The stone for the Tribe of Issachar on the Ephod is referenced as Sapphire (Sappheiros) determining it to also be Lapis Lazuli.
- The third a Chalcedony
(a light blue or white transparent stone, we use natural Chalcedony primarily in a light pastel blue color that compliments the Lapiz Lazuli)
- The fourth an emerald
(a greenstone, we use genuine natural emerald that varies in shades of green and has a marbled appearance)
- The fifth Sardonyx
(a brown or black white banded stone, we use the brown or black which is and was used to make cameos as it compliments the Sardius better than the orange variety)
- The sixth Sardius
(a translucent orange stone, some versions translate it as Carnelian. We use a deep orange to red-orange Carnelian)
- The seventh Chrysolite
(a clear stone with a slight yellow or gold tinge, we use Precious Topaz)
- The eighth Beryl
(a blue green stone, we use a natural Aquamarine that has a marbled appearance)
- The ninth a Topaz
(a clear olive green stone, translated as Olivine or Chrysolite, now called a Peridot. We use a natural yellow green to green Peridot stone bead)
- The tenth a Chrysoprasus
(a greenish yellow stone translated as Chrysoprase. We use Chyrsoprase in its natural state which is a solid green apple color)
- The eleventh Jacinth
(a Ligure, a honey colored stone which comes from Liguria, Italy. It is now referred to as Sphene. Sphene is one of the most expensive gems and can demand more $/karat than a diamond. Because of its value beads are not made from it. Sphene is also available in a green color called Ligurite. Traditionally the Rabbis lean toward a honey colored stone for the Ephod, therefore we lean toward the honey color. The closest match to the look of the honey colored Sphene is Citrine and Flourite. We use golden and golden yellow Citrine and may substitute golden yellow Flourite when Citrine is not available.)
- The twelfth an Amethyst
(a purple stone, we use the common natural purple Amethyst found today)
The information given in the Word of God concerning gemstones is not always 100% clear. Many are referenced as uncertain and there are multiple interpretations. Over the centuries many of the names of precious gems and stones have changed. We have done research and cross referenced Old Testament (Ephod) and New Testament (Foundation) names and have chosen what we believe to be the most accurate matches with the information available today.
All gemstone beads are ethically sourced and are in their "natural" polished state. We may have to substitute "heat treated" beads when certain beads are not obtainable at a resonable price. We never source "color treated or died" beads.
Please be aware that availability of components, supply chain disruptions and shipping provider staffing shortages
may cause unavoidable delays in shipping and possible backorders.
We do our best to fill all orders as quickly as possible.
